Dr. Mirko Bordignon coordinates the ROS-Industrial initiative in Europe as a Senior Expert at Fraunhofer IPA in Stuttgart, Germany.
He strongly believes that the key to fully unlock the potential of 21st century robotics lies in Open-Source, similarly to what happened in the IT and smartphone industries. An academic turned practitioner and then evangelist, he now tries to ease the adoption of modern software development tools and practices in the traditionally hardware-focused automation business.
He has degrees from the University of Padova, Italy, and the University of Southern Denmark, and held visiting positions at Orebro University Sweden, and Harvard University, USA. In academia, his main interests were domain-specific languages and automatic code generation applied to modular robots. In industry, he worked on automated guided vehicles and end-of-line automation machinery.
