Kris Kydd

Kris KYDD is the Head of Robotics TOTAL E&P. He is a chartered electrical engineer with over 10 years experience in the oil and gas industry. Kris began his career at the Total Exploration & Production UK subsidiary in Aberdeen in 2005 holding several electrical engineering positions within the Operations and Projects departments both onshore and offshore. Kris became the subsidiary electrical technical authority and wrote the corporate electrical safety rules for all assets. Kris has extensive knowledge of the design and certification requirements of equipment for potentially explosive atmospheres (ATEX/IECex). In 2013 Kris transferred to the Research and Development department within Exploration & Production, becoming Head of Robotics, with responsibilities including the research of all surface robotic and UAV applications, providing technical robotic expertise to other R&D programs and departments plus management of an international robotic competition called the ARGOS Challenge (Autonomous Robot for Gas & Oil Sites).

Kris represents Total in the euRobotics topic group – Robotic Inspection and Maintenance of Process Facilities for the Oil & Gas / Power Generation / Utilities industry.

Kris is also on the scientific advisory board for EuRoC – European Robotic Challenges researching the state of the art with respect to autonomous functionality and navigation.
